Pals Blog Hop – Families First

Welcome to the Pals’ April Blog Hop. We’re so glad you’re here because we love to put our ”Families First”! Our Design Team created beautiful projects to inspire you. You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

I made this for my wonderful in-laws. I hit the jackpot when it comes to in-laws as they are truly amazing people and I am so very lucky to call them family. Last year Dad was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer. Since then he has undergone numerous treatments and selflessly fought it to give us all more time, especially Mom.

They started hospice care this past Monday and I am heartbroken, we all are. This picture was taken last summer when he was doing better and we all went to visit after we first found out the news. Even under the circumstances, it was a great trip and we enjoyed our time to the fullest. On our last day there we went to breakfast and I thought a picture was in order. Everyone groaned at me and no one wanted their picture taken.

Sometimes when I don’t have the right words and someone else is hurting, I like to make something to brighten their day. When words fail me, I find art helps not only me but them as well. I decided to make this piece of wall art with the picture which I know they will love.

Here is my Families First project:

Ever notice how hard it is to photograph glass? I took it out of the glass and frame for these next photos so you can get a better look. This is a dies only project and there was no stamping involved. I picked up this 9×9 frame from Michaels some while back. Take notice of the embossed heart. The heart die in this set only embossed the image, so I just cut it out with Paper Snips following the lines.

I didn’t realize until I printed it out for this project that through no planning we all ended up color coordinating. How fun and rare is that? I truly had a hard time figuring out what colors to use at first though since there was so many blues and reds. When I was making this I knew I wanted to use Gray Granite but the rest was up in the air. I ended up going with Poppy Parade for the red and Night of Navy for the blue. They looked nice without completing with all the photo colors.

You can see that I did not remove the die cut pieces from the flowers, instead choosing to leave them in as I wanted a more solid look. I added the Share What You Love Artisan Pearls on the center of the open flower.
